Soil Voucher Program
The Oldham County Conservation District administers this program so that our residents may receive free soil testing! Testing the soil prior to making amendments protects our waterways from excess runoff, and saves the landowner time and money.
A contribution from Oldham County Fiscal Court and the MS4 stormwater program, in conjunction with a partnership for lab testing through the UK Cooperative Extension Service enables this program to continue year-round. Simply call our office at 502-222-5123 or drop us an email at oldhamswcd@gmail.com to request vouchers. (provide your name, address, phone and email with # of vouchers needed). Vouchers will be emailed during the pandemic. Take your vouchers with soil samples to the Cooperative Extension Service for free testing ($10 value). Extension personnel are excellent at interpreting the test results and making recommendations according to your plans for the land.
Tree Seedling Giveaway
The annual tree seedling giveaway has historically happened in late winter/early spring. Due to the worldwide pandemic, the District has canceled the annual spring giveaway for 2021.
Monarch Butterfly Program
Eggs are harvested in August and grown to approximately 1/2" long larva. At this stage, they are packaged in individual containers and delivered to OC schools along with resource materials to teach the Monarch lifecycle and metamorphosis.
Teachers and home school parents interested in participating in the program can sign-up by calling our office at 222-5123. Spots fill up fast so get your name on the list!
Mid-September be on the lookout for the monarchs as they migrate back through Oldham County on their way to Mexico. It's a truly a sight to see!
